Conquering Anxiety, One Step at a Time

Personalized coaching is like having your very own cheerleader who helps you navigate your anxiety to get to what you really want. By understanding your unique triggers and thought patterns, you can take control of your mental health and live your best life.

Distinguishing Between Normal Anxiety and Anxiety Disorders

It's important to know the difference between feeling a little anxious and having an anxiety disorder. Understanding the signs can help you get the right support. So, let's dive into the world of anxiety and figure out what's normal and what's not.

Megan on the difference between the two...

"Normal anxiety is the kind where you lose your kid in the store, or you fail the test and you gotta go home and give your mom the paper.

"The other kind—when you look at an anxiety disorder—that's the kind that goes on for a really long time. Like I'm talking weeks or months— or in my case—a really long time where it'll go away for a little bit, but it comes back and there's not an extenuating circumstance that's keeping it there.

"There's nothing going on that's causing it. There's no history of abuse. There's no neglect. There aren't all of these things that we're like, 'Obviously, this person is living through a lot of stuff." It's like, 'Nothing's happening, but I just have developed this really weird relationship with the world around me...'

"It would be weeks and weeks of me having panic attacks or anxiety attacks and not being able to say, 'Oh, that situation is over. Right.'

Sidenote: this was a signal for Jenny and me, too! We would worry about events that had resolved weeks, months, or even years prior, and most of the time, those events had resolved positively! But our bodies continued reacting to the situation in a way we couldn't control.

"So what I do is I work with people one-on-one and we do a lot of just getting used to that feeling in your body and knowing specifically how your body responds so that we can create like an exit ramp. So instead of going from body to mind to body to mind, so it gets bigger and bigger, we just 'exit stage right' and get out of there.

Wrapping it Up

If you find yourself feeling similarly, it's time to ask for help. Jenny and I both got support from our primary care doctors after realizing that our feelings had taken over other areas of our lives.
