Turning Your Car into a Mom-Mobile: Essential Items Every Mom Should Have

Every parent knows that cars are more than just vehicles; they're our mobile offices, snack bars, and even makeshift changing rooms. As moms, we're constantly on the go, and being prepared for anything that comes our way is key. In this blog post, inspired by our latest podcast episode, we'll share some essential items that should have a permanent home in your car, transforming it from just a means of transportation into a well-equipped mom-mobile (but like, the cute kind).

Safety First

Safety is paramount, so make sure your car is equipped with these essentials:

  • A well-stocked first aid kit: Go beyond the basics and include items that are actually relevant to your family's needs, like allergy medication and any necessary prescriptions.

  • Jumper cables: Because dead batteries happen to the best of us. And, even if you don’t know how to jump your own car, you can be a hero when someone else needs them!

  • A flashlight or headlamp: Always be prepared for unexpected situations, like a power outage or an accident.

  • Hand sanitizer (or “hanitizer,” as Jenny says): Because duh.

  • Your car’s manual: You might actually need this, so keep it in your car!

Convenience is Key

Forget rummaging through your purse for a tissue! Let's start with the essentials:

  • Paper napkins: Trust me, you'll thank me later. They're far more effective than tissues at handling those inevitable spills and crumbs.

  • An umbrella: Because unpredictable weather happens, and you don't want to be caught in the rain.

  • Paper insurance card: The last thing you want to do when you’ve been rear ended on the way home from work is dig through your e-wallet or log into your insurance app (or even worse, their website).

  • 2+ Phone chargers (for everyone!): No more fighting over chargers!

Keeping Your Sanity Intact

Let's not forget about self-care!

  • Entertainment for the kids: Pack a deck of cards, some travel games, and keep a playlist of audiobooks and kids’ podcasts to keep little ones entertained during long car rides.

  • Healthy snacks: Stock up on granola bars, fruit snacks, and other easy-to-eat snacks to avoid meltdowns.

  • Mints or gum: Freshen your breath after that coffee run or a long car ride.

  • Vanity items: The lighting in the car highlights errant chin and eyebrow hairs juuuuuust right. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Be sure to include tweezers and a lipstick/cheek stain combo for when you’re feeling a little… um… Gollum-esque.

Wrap-up: Things to keep in your car

Ultimately, your car should be a reflection of your needs as a mom. By stocking it with the right essentials, you can make every journey smoother, safer, and less stressful. Happy driving!
